DHAKA: Bangladesh has increased the prices of major petroleum products by up to 17.4 percent, with the new rates coming into effect from today.
According to the reported details, the price of diesel has been increased from 115 taka to 135 taka per litre under the revised pricing structure.
The price of petrol has also been raised significantly, increasing from 140 taka to 160 taka per litre. Meanwhile, the price of kerosene has gone up from 135 taka to 155 taka per litre.
Bangladesh’s Energy Ministry said global fuel prices have more than doubled since March 2026. The ministry attributed the increase to developments in the international fuel market as well as higher transportation costs caused by regional tensions.
According to the ministry, rising global fuel prices have placed significant financial pressure on the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. The corporation reportedly suffered losses of 228.76 billion taka between March and August.
The increase in fuel prices is expected to have implications for transportation and other sectors that depend heavily on petroleum products. Higher diesel and petrol costs can also increase operating expenses across transport and logistics-related activities.
