Karachi ATM Theft

Bank Operations Manager Allegedly Involved in Karachi ATM Theft

A bank operations manager has allegedly been found involved in the theft of millions of rupees from an ATM of a private bank on Aram Bagh Road in Karachi, police said.

According to police, the incident took place during the night of August 7 when the suspects allegedly gained access to the ATM and stole Rs53.7 million in cash. Investigators said CCTV footage played a key role in identifying and arresting the alleged thieves.

Police officials said the bank’s operations manager and one of his friends were allegedly involved in the robbery. The suspects reportedly opened the ATM lock and removed the cash before leaving the premises.

According to investigators, the suspects also attempted to prevent the ATM’s security cameras from recording the incident. They allegedly placed chewing gum over the CCTV camera installed inside the ATM in an effort to obstruct its view.

Police said the investigation eventually led them to the bank’s operations manager, who allegedly arranged for the stolen money to be kept with his friend following the robbery.

Authorities said a portion of the allegedly stolen cash has been recovered during the investigation. Police officials reported recovering Rs2.974 million from the suspects so far.

The suspects have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the robbery and establish whether other individuals were involved. Police are also examining the available CCTV footage and other evidence as part of the investigation.
