Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has described the US-Iran Memorandum as a historic development that could strengthen peace and stability across the region. Speaking during a National Assembly session, he said dialogue remains the best solution to conflicts and praised diplomatic efforts that helped achieve the agreement.
Bilawal stated that the signing of the US-Iran Memorandum demonstrates how negotiations can produce better outcomes than confrontation. He emphasized that peaceful engagement creates opportunities for economic growth, investment, and employment, particularly for younger generations seeking a more stable future.
During his speech, he commended Pakistan’s military and political leadership for their contributions to regional stability. He also appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari’s role in supporting peace initiatives and highlighted the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels during challenging times.
The PPP chairman noted that despite the reported ceasefire between Iran and the United States, certain elements continue to create uncertainty in the region. He also referred to concerns regarding India’s regional posture and stressed the need for national unity to address external challenges effectively.
Discussing domestic issues, Bilawal rejected concerns that constitutional protections for provinces would be weakened. He said misinformation had circulated before the federal budget, including claims regarding constitutional amendments and welfare programs. According to him, cooperative discussions helped resolve several contentious matters.
Bilawal further emphasized that the National Finance Commission framework remains protected and that provincial rights should continue to be respected. He argued that federal and provincial governments must work together to find constitutional solutions to economic and administrative challenges facing the country.
Concluding his address, he defended the Benazir Income Support Programme, calling it an essential tool for poverty reduction and economic stability. He urged policymakers to expand social protection initiatives and said that cooperation among all stakeholders remains vital for national development. The US-Iran Memorandum, he added, serves as an example of how dialogue can help overcome complex challenges.
