Mohamed Salah injury concerns have emerged after Egypt captain Mohamed Salah asked to be substituted during his team’s 1-1 FIFA World Cup group-stage draw against Iran. Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan confirmed that the Liverpool forward will undergo medical assessment before the team’s Round of 32 clash against Australia.
Salah was substituted 12 minutes into the second half and appeared visibly frustrated as he left the field. Speaking after the match, Hassan said the player requested the change himself, suggesting he felt some discomfort, but added that it was too early to determine the seriousness of the issue.
The Egypt coach said the medical staff would closely examine Salah before making any decisions regarding his availability. While no official diagnosis has been announced, Hassan expressed hope that the problem is not severe and that the team’s captain can recover in time for the knockout stage.
Egypt also faces additional injury concerns, with left-back Ahmed Fatouh set to undergo evaluation after picking up a knock. Meanwhile, midfielder Hamdi Fathi is expected to continue his recovery after missing the Iran match, with the coaching staff optimistic he could return against Australia.
Despite the fitness worries, Mohamed Salah injury has not shaken Hassan’s confidence in his squad. Egypt finished second in Group G with five points, narrowly behind Belgium on goal difference, securing a place in the knockout rounds of the tournament.
Hassan praised the depth of his team, describing his players as committed and dependable. He said he has complete confidence in every member of the squad and believes Egypt has enough quality to compete even if some key players are unavailable.
Looking ahead, Egypt will now shift its full attention to preparing for the Round of 32. Hassan described qualification for the knockout stage as a proud achievement for Egypt, the Arab world, and Africa, adding that his team will work hard to continue its World Cup campaign.
