The Lahore Mass Transit Authority (LMTA) has officially discontinued the token and traditional travel card system for the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus, and Speedo Bus Service. The announcement was made by Mass Transit Authority In-charge Uzair Shah.
According to Uzair Shah, passengers will no longer be able to use the old transit cards for travel. Instead, commuters can now pay their fares through T-Cash cards, the official mobile application, and ATM/debit cards, as part of the authority’s move towards a more digital fare collection system.
He also stated that any remaining balance on the old travel cards will not be refunded. However, passengers who return their old cards at designated stations will receive only the Rs130 security deposit that was originally charged for the card.
The Mass Transit Authority has urged all commuters to submit their old travel cards at the relevant stations to claim the refundable security amount and complete the transition to the new payment system.
Meanwhile, several passengers have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. Commuters claim they were still allowed to recharge the old cards despite the system being discontinued and say they were not informed in advance about the policy change.
Passengers have also raised concerns over the non-refundable balance remaining on their cards, arguing that the lack of prior notification has caused confusion and inconvenience for regular users of public transport.
The Lahore Mass Transit Authority has yet to respond to these complaints in detail. Commuters are advised to use the newly introduced digital payment options for future travel on the city’s mass transit network.
