IAEA Confirms Iran Nuclear Inspections Will Resume Soon

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iran nuclear inspections will resume in the near future following the recent interim agreement between Tehran and Washington. However, officials say the exact procedures and timeline are still being finalized through ongoing discussions.

Speaking during a press conference in Japan, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said inspections would definitely take place as part of the commitments outlined in the recently signed memorandum of understanding. The agreement established a framework for continued negotiations aimed at resolving key issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.

According to Grossi, technical discussions are currently focused on determining inspection schedules, procedures, and access arrangements. He emphasized that the agency remains committed to carrying out its monitoring responsibilities under international safeguards and verification mechanisms.

A major issue in the ongoing talks is the future of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile. Before military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last year, the IAEA estimated that Iran possessed more than 440 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent purity, a level significantly higher than that required for civilian purposes.

The Iran nuclear inspections are considered a critical component of the broader peace process between Iran and the United States. Under the memorandum, all nuclear-related activities involving facilities and materials are expected to remain under IAEA supervision and verification.

Iran has not yet provided full details regarding the status or location of all enriched uranium following attacks on several nuclear sites. Grossi noted that the agency believes a substantial amount of nuclear material may still be stored at facilities in Isfahan, where some infrastructure reportedly remained intact after the strikes.

As negotiations continue, international observers view the resumption of Iran nuclear inspections as an important confidence-building measure. The success of the inspection process is expected to play a significant role in determining whether a comprehensive agreement can be reached within the 60-day negotiation period.
