Kane Williamson Announces Retirement from International Cricket After Legendary Career

New Zealand cricket star Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable 16-year career at the highest level.

The decision marks a major moment in world cricket as the Kane Williamson retirement brings closure to one of the most consistent and respected batting careers in modern cricket.

Williamson, aged 35, was part of the New Zealand squad currently playing a Test series against England, but his retirement means he will not participate in the remaining matches of the series.

In his statement, Williamson said he had been considering retirement for some time and felt that now was the right moment to step away from international cricket.

He expressed pride in representing New Zealand throughout his career, stating that playing for his country had always been a great honour and responsibility.

The former captain retires as one of New Zealand’s greatest Test batsmen, scoring 9,515 runs in 110 Test matches, along with over 7,000 runs in One Day Internationals and more than 2,500 runs in T20 Internationals.

One of the highlights of his career was leading New Zealand to victory in the 2021 World Test Championship, a historic achievement for the team under his captaincy.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter praised Williamson as a world-class player and exemplary leader, saying his impact on New Zealand cricket will be remembered for many years.
