Karachi police have obtained four years of Mir Raza crypto trading records as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding his death. The 25-year-old businessman was found dead with a gunshot wound in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on July 29.
A police official said the records were obtained through the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The records reportedly show that Mir Raza Ali had been involved in cryptocurrency futures trading on Binance for the past four years.
The development comes as a judicial commission continues hearings into the case. Ali’s friend Abdul Hasem had earlier told the commission that he and Ali used to trade cryptocurrency. Hasem said he stopped after suffering losses, while Ali had continued trading successfully.
Police had previously sought NCCIA assistance to recover Ali’s digital records and WhatsApp account details. Investigators wanted to determine whether the information contained any suspicious activity connected with the events surrounding his death.
The case has remained controversial since Ali went missing on July 28 and his body was found the following day. His family accused police of initially attempting to treat the incident as suicide. Questions were later raised about some findings in the first post-mortem report.
Following an application by Ali’s father, a Karachi court ordered his exhumation and directed authorities to conduct a second autopsy. The Sindh government formed and later restored a medical board after the family objected to changes in its composition. Ali’s body was eventually exhumed on August 8.
The final second post-mortem report concluded that Ali died from a gunshot wound to the back that caused a fatal chest injury. It said the findings were inconsistent with suicide. Meanwhile, a judicial commission headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial is continuing to examine the case and the conduct of the investigation.
