The Mir Raza murder case took a new turn on Friday as a judicial commission investigating the circumstances surrounding his death summoned his business partner and employees to record their statements. The witnesses have been asked to appear before the commission on September 15.
Among those summoned is Ahsan Anis Shamsi, who reportedly held a 30 per cent partnership in Mir Raza Ali’s eatery, Wafflix. The commission also issued notices to the restaurant’s manager, Sherry, and accountant Muhammad Umair Khan for their statements.
The commission further summoned Asad Ali Butt and Usman Buzai, whose names have emerged in connection with Ali’s business. An e-notice was also issued to Hassan Tanoli, who is residing in Australia. Tanoli has been allowed to record his statement through Zoom or another electronic method.
The Mir Raza murder case concerns the death of the 25-year-old businessman whose body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar on July 29. He had reportedly gone missing a day earlier and was later found with a gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding his death have remained under investigation.
The case has faced controversy over the handling of the investigation and initial questions about whether Ali’s death could have been suicide. His family had raised concerns over the investigation and questioned whether the circumstances of his death were being fully examined by authorities.
A second post-mortem was later conducted after a Karachi court allowed the exhumation of Ali’s body. The final report said his death resulted from a firearm injury to the chest, with the entry wound on his back and the exit wound on the front of the chest. It also stated that the findings were inconsistent with suicide.
The Mir Raza murder case is now being examined by the judicial commission, which is seeking statements from people connected with Ali and his business. The latest summons are part of efforts to examine the circumstances surrounding his death and assess the available information as the investigation continues.
