The Lahore High Court has summoned the Punjab Home Secretary and the jail superintendent to appear in person on October 28 in a case concerning the recovery of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan’s sisters.
Justice Abhar Gul heard the petition seeking the recovery of the sisters. During the proceedings, Ahad Khan, the husband of Uzma Khan, requested the court to summon the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore.
Court Questions Why Deputy Commissioner Was Not Named
Responding to the request, Justice Abhar Gul observed that the Deputy Commissioner could not be summoned in the case because he had not been made a party to the petition.
The court subsequently asked the petitioner’s counsel why the Lahore Deputy Commissioner had not been included as a respondent. The question arose during arguments over the detention orders previously issued against the three sisters.
Counsel Says Detention Orders Have Expired
The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that the detention orders concerning all three sisters had expired on October 19 and 20. According to the counsel, the Deputy Commissioner’s detention notification was no longer in effect, which was why the official had not been included as a party to the petition.
The court then issued directions requiring the Punjab Home Secretary and the jail superintendent to appear personally at the next hearing on October 28.
Next Hearing Scheduled for October 28
The upcoming hearing is expected to address the matter further, with the two officials directed to appear before the court in person. The case concerns the request for the recovery of Imran Khan’s sisters following the expiry of their reported detention orders.
Further developments will depend on the proceedings and any directions issued by the court.
