Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions on Indian flights until September 24, 2026, according to a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority. The latest decision continues the restrictions affecting Indian-registered airlines and certain commercial and military aircraft associated with India.
Under the latest NOTAM, the restrictions that came into force on August 18 will remain effective until 4:59 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time on September 24. The measure prevents specified Indian aircraft from entering Pakistani airspace during the stated period.
The restriction applies to all Indian-registered airlines, aircraft obtained through lease arrangements, and commercial or military aircraft owned or operated by Indian citizens. The move represents a continued limitation on aviation routes involving India and Pakistan.
The restrictions were initially introduced on April 23, 2025, and have subsequently been extended through a series of NOTAMs. The latest notification marks the 16th NOTAM issued in connection with the ongoing airspace restrictions.
The continued Pakistan airspace ban on Indian flights is expected to affect airlines operating routes that would normally benefit from access to Pakistani airspace. Airlines may need to use alternative flight paths, potentially increasing travel distances, fuel consumption, and operating costs.
The latest extension highlights the continuing impact of restrictions on aviation connectivity between the two countries. For airlines and passengers, changes to permitted airspace can influence flight routes, schedules, operating costs, and journey times, particularly on international services that could otherwise use shorter routes across the region.
With the new NOTAM, Pakistan’s airspace restrictions on Indian flights will remain in effect through September 24, subject to any further decision or notification from the relevant Pakistani aviation authorities. Airlines operating affected aircraft will need to comply with the restrictions throughout the specified period.
