Pakistan Commitment to Shanghai Spirit was reaffirmed by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during a special meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) ministers responsible for interior and public security affairs in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The minister called for enhanced regional cooperation to address terrorism, cybercrime, organised crime, drug trafficking, and terror financing.
Addressing delegates from SCO member states, Naqvi said the region was facing increasingly complex security challenges. He noted that criminal and terrorist groups were rapidly adapting to technological advancements, using artificial intelligence, digital platforms, online networks, and cryptocurrencies to expand their operations across borders.
The minister stressed that shared threats require collective responses. He urged SCO members to develop a comprehensive regional strategy capable of tackling emerging security risks and transnational crimes through stronger institutional coordination and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
Highlighting Pakistan Commitment to Shanghai Spirit, Naqvi said the country remained fully dedicated to the SCO principles of mutual trust, equality, cooperation, and respect for sovereignty. He added that Pakistan continues to strengthen its national security framework to counter evolving threats while contributing to regional stability.
Naqvi also pointed to Pakistan’s efforts under the National Action Plan, including improvements in intelligence coordination, border management, and anti-money laundering measures. According to him, these reforms have significantly enhanced the country’s ability to combat terrorism and organised criminal networks.
On cybersecurity, the minister described cyber intelligence and digital forensics cooperation as essential in the modern era. He also warned that narcotics trafficking remains a major source of terror financing and called for coordinated action against drug networks, online criminal activities, and illicit financial flows facilitated through digital currencies.
Concluding his remarks, Naqvi said Pakistan Commitment to Shanghai Spirit would continue to guide its engagement within the SCO framework. He emphasized that no country can effectively confront transnational threats alone and expressed Pakistan’s readiness to welcome member states at the SCO summit scheduled to be held in Islamabad in 2027.
