Pakistan will host Canada for a bilateral hockey series in Islamabad from February 8 to 21, 2027. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) confirmed the planned visit as part of efforts to revive international hockey in the country. The series aims to strengthen sporting ties and provide players with valuable international experience.
The PHF said it would coordinate with the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and relevant federal authorities to organise the Canadian delegation’s visit. Arrangements will cover accommodation, transportation, sports facilities and security. The federation aims to ensure professional standards throughout the planned series.
PHF president Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and the federal secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination welcomed the proposed tour. They described it as an opportunity to promote international hockey and strengthen relations between Pakistan and Canada through sports. The matches will also allow players and officials to exchange knowledge and improve their understanding of international competition.
The planned Pakistan hockey series 2027 forms part of broader efforts to restore the country’s presence on the international hockey calendar. Pakistan, once a dominant force in world hockey, has been working to improve its competitiveness through international matches and better development opportunities. The federation also aims to encourage young players to pursue the sport.
Meanwhile, the PHF has accepted an invitation for Pakistan’s participation in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia in November 2026. The federation said the tournament would give the senior national team valuable match practice against international opponents. It expects the competition to help players improve their technical abilities and competitive performance.
Pakistan’s Under-21 team is also in Malaysia for the Sultan of Johor Cup. The PHF said its development strategy covers Under-18, Under-21, senior men’s and women’s teams. The programme focuses on international exposure, improved coaching, better training facilities and stronger support systems for players across different age groups.
The federation also plans to improve financial incentives and create clearer pathways for emerging talent to reach the senior national team. The PHF believes regular international competition and professional preparation are essential to rebuilding Pakistan’s position in world hockey. Hosting Canada and participating in the Azlan Shah Cup are part of these efforts to strengthen the national teams.
