Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the ongoing US Iran talks as a major diplomatic breakthrough, saying they have created renewed hope for peace and stability in the region. Addressing the National Assembly on Tuesday, he called the developments historic and significant for global diplomacy.
The prime minister said that technical-level negotiations between Washington and Tehran had made substantial progress, with both sides discussing a wide range of issues. According to him, the outcome of these talks could benefit not only the two countries but also broader regional stability.
The US Iran talks reportedly include structured discussions on key areas such as nuclear issues, sanctions, economic development, and monitoring mechanisms. Officials have indicated that working groups have been established to continue negotiations over the coming weeks.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan played a constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the two countries. He emphasized that Pakistan has consistently supported diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts in the region and contributed to restarting communication between Washington and Tehran.
He further stated that a memorandum of understanding reached in Islamabad marked an important milestone in improving bilateral relations. According to him, the next 60 days of the US Iran talks are expected to shape the framework for a comprehensive peace agreement.
The prime minister added that a ceasefire between the United States and Iran had already been achieved, describing it as a positive step toward reducing tensions. He expressed hope that continued dialogue would help resolve longstanding differences through peaceful means.
During his address, PM Shehbaz also briefly touched on domestic political issues, urging opposition parties to focus on national unity. He said Pakistan must prioritize stability at both domestic and international levels, especially at a time of evolving regional diplomacy.
