The Shehbaz Sharif Kaja Kallas Meeting highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with the European Union during high-level talks held in Islamabad. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed European Union foreign policy chief and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas at the Prime Minister’s House for discussions on bilateral and regional matters.
The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and other government representatives. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s desire to deepen its multifaceted partnership with the European Union. He expressed satisfaction over the eighth round of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue and reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to increasing engagement in trade, investment, climate action, security, migration, sustainable development, and connectivity.
During the Shehbaz Sharif Kaja Kallas Meeting, the prime minister underscored the significance of the GSP Plus trade scheme in strengthening economic relations between Pakistan and the European Union. He noted that the framework continues to play a vital role in enhancing bilateral trade and supporting economic growth.
Regional and international developments also featured prominently in the discussions. Shehbaz Sharif thanked European leaders for supporting Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the Gulf region and highlighted the diplomatic contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in advancing these initiatives.
The prime minister also briefed the EU representative on Pakistan’s perspective regarding South Asia and developments related to Afghanistan. He conveyed his best wishes to European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen while reiterating invitations for both leaders to visit Pakistan.
