YouTube has announced stricter guidelines for artificial intelligence (AI)-generated videos as part of its efforts to improve content quality and reduce the spread of low-value and spam-like material. The updated policy is designed to ensure that AI is used responsibly while encouraging creators to produce more original and meaningful content.
According to YouTube, the changes are not entirely new rules but a clearer explanation of its existing policies. As AI-powered content creation becomes increasingly popular, the platform says it wants creators to better understand which types of AI-generated videos meet its quality standards.
The company stated that it will pay closer attention to repetitive AI-generated videos, particularly those that recycle the same content, offer little originality, or contain material considered low-value for viewers. Such content may remain on the platform but will face restrictions.
Under the updated policy, repetitive or spam-like AI videos may no longer be eligible for monetization through the YouTube Partner Program. In addition, these videos are less likely to be recommended to users by YouTube’s recommendation system.
YouTube emphasized that creators should focus on producing content that provides value, context, and originality rather than relying entirely on AI tools. The platform said that while AI can assist in content creation, human creativity and meaningful input remain essential for long-term success.
The company also explained that it is working to distinguish between helpful AI-generated content and spam-based uploads. Spam content generally refers to large volumes of repetitive videos published without sufficient originality, quality, or purpose.
In its official statement, YouTube said the latest update is intended to provide greater clarity on existing rules rather than introduce a sudden crackdown. The platform hopes the revised guidance will help creators understand its expectations while promoting higher-quality AI-assisted content.
