The Noreen Niazi NCCIA notice case moved forward on Monday after the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan submitted an initial written response to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The agency had issued a notice seeking her statement over remarks she made during a recent interview regarding Operation Marka-e-Haq.
According to her lawyer, Faisal Malik, Noreen Niazi became aware of the notice through social media on Monday morning. Following the development, her legal team appeared before the NCCIA and submitted a preliminary written reply while requesting details of the complaint and the legal provisions under which the notice had been issued.
Malik said the defence had asked the agency to provide a copy of any complaint registered against his client. He added that the legal team had also sought four weeks to submit a detailed response after reviewing the relevant documents.
The lawyer stated that the NCCIA directed Noreen Niazi to appear before the agency in person on Tuesday. However, he informed reporters that she would not be able to attend on the scheduled date due to the request for additional time to prepare her defence.
Quoting his client, Malik said Noreen Niazi maintained that she respects all state institutions and would never intentionally act in a manner that could damage Pakistan’s reputation. He emphasized that her legal team intends to cooperate with the inquiry within the framework of the law.
The NCCIA notice was issued under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. It instructed Noreen Niazi to appear before the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad to record her statement. The notice also warned that failure to comply could attract legal consequences under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The Noreen Niazi NCCIA notice followed an interview in which she made allegations regarding Operation Marka-e-Haq and regional developments. The NCCIA has initiated an inquiry into the matter, while further proceedings will depend on the agency’s review of her response and any subsequent legal process.
