President Donald Trump said the latest Trump US strikes on Iran were carried out “in honour” of American service members killed in recent attacks in the Middle East. The remarks came after the United States launched a new wave of military operations against Iranian targets, marking the ninth consecutive night of strikes amid escalating regional tensions.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the overnight operation targeted military facilities and communications networks across Iran. The US military said the strikes were intended to reduce Iran’s ability to conduct attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international shipping route.
Speaking after the operation, Trump said the strikes had hit Iran “very hard” and were dedicated to three US service members who died in recent incidents. Two American soldiers were killed in an attack on a military base in Jordan, while another service member died following an Iranian attack in northern Iraq. The Pentagon identified two of the victims as Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, and Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25.
Iran said it responded with what it described as a “surprise attack” in Syria and also targeted US aircraft at Jordan’s Aqaba Airport. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s armed forces reported intercepting Iranian drones, highlighting the widening impact of the conflict across the region.
Iranian media also reported explosions in several cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr, and Bandar Imam Khomeini. Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that two oil tankers exploded while using the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. However, CENTCOM disputed that account.
The IRGC warned that the Strait of Hormuz would remain unsafe for oil and petrochemical shipments as long as US military operations continued. The statement renewed concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping corridors.
The Trump US strikes on Iran come as diplomatic efforts remain stalled despite repeated calls for negotiations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remains open to diplomacy but insisted that international shipping must not be threatened, while both sides continue exchanging military actions across the region.
