Nawaz Sharif AJK elections became a key campaign talking point after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif said he would like to become the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir if his party wins the upcoming elections.
Addressing a public gathering in Muzaffarabad, Nawaz Sharif said he felt like asking Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appoint him as the prime minister of Azad Kashmir if the PML-N secured victory. The remark was made while addressing party supporters during the election campaign.
The PML-N leader described Azad Kashmir as his “second home” and said it was as dear to him as Punjab. He assured supporters that the party would work to resolve the region’s long-standing issues if elected to power.
Speaking about the Nawaz Sharif AJK elections campaign, he pledged to visit Azad Kashmir every three months if the PML-N formed the next government. He said he would personally monitor development projects and address public concerns.
Nawaz Sharif also proposed the construction of a scenic motorway along the Jhelum River to improve connectivity and promote regional development. He said the project would contribute to tourism and economic growth in the region.
The former prime minister promised a tenfold increase in the Azad Kashmir budget if the PML-N formed the government. He said additional financial resources would be used to improve infrastructure and public services across the territory.
Referring to development initiatives in Punjab, Nawaz Sharif said many projects were launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and are being completed under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He also announced that 10 green buses would be provided to Muzaffarabad by the Punjab government.
