Makkah Pact

Makkah Pact Says Attack on One Country Is Attack on All: FO

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hassan Andrabi said the Makkah Pact clearly states that an attack on one participating country will be considered an attack on all.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Andrabi described the August 7 Makkah Summit as an important development and said Pakistan played a key role in facilitating the agreement.

The spokesperson said the Makkah Pact is purely defensive in nature and reflects the three countries’ shared commitment to regional peace and security. He said efforts would continue to strengthen collective security within and beyond the region.

Andrabi stressed that the agreement should not be viewed only in the context of the three participating countries. He said its focus on peace and security gives it wider regional significance.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan remains hopeful about peace in the region and is continuing sincere efforts to help resolve the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He noted that the parties had also engaged in dialogue following a rise in tensions.

Regarding the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, Andrabi said Pakistan’s position remains clear. He also thanked the Iranian president for positive remarks concerning Pakistan and said Islamabad was closely monitoring developments.

The spokesperson also addressed the US-Saudi civil nuclear agreement, saying Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia’s right to peaceful nuclear energy. He said Islamabad would issue a detailed response after the full details of the agreement become available.
