PM Shehbaz Invites Opposition to Dialogue to Strengthen Economy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has again invited the opposition to hold talks with the government. He said PM Shehbaz opposition dialogue could help strengthen Pakistan’s economy and democracy.

Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, the prime minister said political issues should be resolved through discussion. He added that the government had always remained ready for dialogue.

Shehbaz said he had repeatedly expressed his willingness to engage with the opposition in parliament and before the cabinet. He said it was now up to the opposition to decide how soon it was ready for constructive talks.

Meanwhile, the prime minister welcomed a Rs32 per litre reduction in diesel prices. He said the cut was important because Pakistan is a major energy importer and remains exposed to global supply disruptions.

He also discussed the situation around the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz. According to the prime minister, disruptions to oil supplies and closures of refineries and gas plants have created pressure on energy markets.

The government had allocated Rs128 billion after the conflict began to help control oil prices, Shehbaz said. He also expressed hope that regional tensions would ease and that Pakistan would continue supporting efforts for stability.

The prime minister also highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s economy and digital sector. He welcomed an 18% rise in IT exports in July 2026 and praised the establishment of a Google office in Pakistan. The PM Shehbaz opposition dialogue offer, he said, remains open as the government seeks stronger political and economic stability.
