During July and the middle of August, sea surface temperatures in some areas were recorded between 2.2 and 2.6 degrees Celsius above normal. In certain locations, temperatures beneath the ocean surface were reportedly as much as 8 degrees Celsius higher than average, highlighting the unusual intensity of the warming.
Experts warn that a stronger El Niño could trigger abnormal weather conditions across several regions. Some areas could face extreme heat and increased flooding, while others may experience prolonged periods of drought as atmospheric circulation patterns are disrupted.
