The federal government has reportedly decided against immediate KP emergency or governor rule, according to informed sources. Instead, it plans to give Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf another opportunity to reconsider its October 4 march.
The decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with senior members of his team and key advisers. The meeting focused on the political and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sources said options involving an emergency and governor rule were discussed during the meeting. However, no decision was taken to implement either measure at this stage, with officials opting to wait for PTI’s next political move.
The government is particularly watching whether PTI cancels its planned October 4 march and changes what officials describe as its confrontational political strategy. Sources said the party has been given additional time to reduce tensions.
According to the sources, the government may consider resolving several issues through political and administrative channels if PTI responds positively and withdraws the march. These issues could involve arrangements concerning PTI founder Imran Khan.
The sources said possible facilitation could include improved access to Imran Khan for his lawyers and family members. They also said medical treatment or hospital admission could be considered where medically necessary, subject to relevant procedures.
Similar facilitation may also be considered for Bushra Bibi, particularly regarding meetings with family members and her legal team. The reported developments come amid continuing political tensions and security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the government weighs its next steps.
