Hafiz Naeem Announces Next Step After October 7

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman says the next phase of action over the petroleum levy will be announced after October 7. He made the statement while speaking to the media in Karachi. The issue remains a major focus of the party’s campaign against fuel prices.

Hafiz Naeem said the government’s relief package for petrol was not a favour to citizens. He claimed the government introduced the package under pressure. He also said the package does not cover all 4 million motorcycles in the country.

According to the Jamaat-e-Islami chief, ending the petroleum levy is the solution to the issue. He questioned why other political forces remained silent about petroleum prices. He also rejected the idea of creating a separate system for wealthy citizens.

Hafiz Naeem said his party would announce its next course of action after October 7. Jamaat-e-Islami has previously organised protests over the petroleum levy. The party has demanded relief from rising petroleum costs and changes to the levy.

The party had earlier launched a long march from Karachi towards Islamabad over the levy issue. The protest movement was later postponed following discussions and developments involving the government. Hafiz Naeem said the party had not withdrawn from its position.

In September, Hafiz Naeem also said the party would decide its future strategy after further developments. The government had offered discussions on the petroleum levy during that period. The party maintained its demand for relief on petroleum products.

Hafiz Naeem also spoke about the situation in Palestine during his Karachi media interaction. He said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue raising the issue of Palestinians. He also expressed support for Palestinians and opposition to what he described as Israeli actions.
