Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump’s annihilation threat, calling his warnings a sign of strategic desperation rather than strength. Tehran also warned that its armed forces were prepared to respond if the United States launched further attacks.
The response followed Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22. During his speech, Trump warned that Iran could face destruction if it failed to reach an agreement with Washington. He also said a diplomatic solution remained possible.
Iran’s General Staff criticised the US president’s remarks in a statement carried by Mehr News Agency. It accused Trump of using the UN platform to defend what Iranian officials described as US aggression against Iran.
The Iranian military described Trump’s repeated warnings as evidence of what it called an American strategic dead end. It said the language used by Washington should not be interpreted as an indication of military strength. Instead, Iranian officials labelled the threats as a sign of strategic desperation.
Iran also warned that its forces remained ready to respond to further military action. According to the statement, Iranian forces could launch attacks against US and Israeli targets that would be more severe and less predictable than previous strikes during the conflict.
The exchange has added to tensions between Washington and Tehran as diplomatic contacts continue alongside the military confrontation. Al Jazeera reported that US and Iranian representatives also held mediated discussions around the UN General Assembly, indicating that diplomatic channels remain active despite the sharp rhetoric.
Trump’s annihilation threat and Iran’s response have therefore placed both military warnings and possible negotiations at the centre of the latest developments. The two sides continue to exchange strong statements while diplomatic efforts seek a possible path toward ending the conflict.
