The government of Pakistan plans to provide 500,000 students across the country with Chromebooks and internet access over the next two years as part of an initiative to improve access to modern education.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the programme at a ceremony in Islamabad, where he distributed Chromebooks among students who had demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
Addressing the event, the prime minister said students were Pakistan’s real asset and that empowering young people was essential for the country’s future. He stressed that providing access to modern education was a shared responsibility.
Shehbaz Sharif said talented students should have equal opportunities regardless of their financial backgrounds. He added that intelligence and hard work should not be limited by wealth or poverty.
The prime minister also recalled that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had previously distributed 600,000 laptops among deserving students across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, on the basis of merit.
Under the new initiative, 500,000 Chromebooks will be distributed over two years. According to the prime minister, the devices will help students continue learning remotely, regardless of where they live, and allow them to access educational opportunities more easily.
