The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that isolated heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in several vulnerable regions over the next two days.
According to the Met Office, moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, combined with an approaching westerly weather system, are expected to produce intermittent rainfall in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeastern Balochistan. Isolated rain showers are also likely in parts of Sindh during the forecast period.
The PMD warned that heavy downpours could cause urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert as water accumulation may disrupt traffic and daily life.
The weather department also cautioned that landslides and rising water levels in streams and hill torrents are possible in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and parts of Dera Ghazi Khan. Authorities have been urged to monitor vulnerable locations and respond promptly to any emergency situations.
Strong winds and lightning accompanying thunderstorms may damage weak infrastructure, including electricity poles, solar panels and roadside billboards. The PMD advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and to stay away from open spaces during lightning activity.
Farmers, tourists and travellers have also been urged to take precautionary measures, while relevant government departments have been asked to remain vigilant and ensure that emergency response systems are ready if weather conditions worsen.
