Punjab Speeds Up Development Projects Across 52 Cities

The Punjab development projects are progressing rapidly across 52 cities under the Punjab Development Plan, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Saturday. She stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to accelerate development, beautification and infrastructure upgrades while ensuring key public works are completed before the monsoon season.

In a statement, Bukhari said projects related to water supply, sewerage and drainage systems are being prioritised to minimise public inconvenience during heavy rainfall. She added that departments have been instructed to complete work on schedule and ensure roads and excavation sites are restored promptly after construction.

The minister said the government aims to provide modern civic facilities and improve urban infrastructure across the province. She noted that development work is being carried out simultaneously in multiple districts to enhance public services and improve the quality of life for residents.

Bukhari also emphasised that safety measures are being strictly implemented at construction sites to protect citizens and workers. Relevant authorities have been directed not to leave open pits or incomplete excavation work that could pose risks during the rainy season.

Under the Punjab Beautification Plan, renovation and upgrading projects are also underway in parks, public markets, city entrances and other public spaces. According to the minister, new parks, modern marketplaces and upgraded entry points have already been completed in Mandi Bahauddin, Sambrial, Chiniot, Rahim Yar Khan and Okara.

She added that beautification schemes have also been completed in Sargodha, Attock, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Shakargarh and Khushab. These projects are intended to improve the appearance of cities while creating cleaner and more attractive public spaces for residents and visitors.

The Punjab development projects continue under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Bukhari said. She added that the government’s vision is to transform cities across Punjab into modern, clean and well-developed urban centres equipped with improved civic amenities and sustainable infrastructure.
