Russia has voiced strong concern over the latest surge in Middle East tensions, calling on all parties involved to exercise restraint and immediately halt military operations. The statement came as regional instability intensified following a new round of confrontation involving the United States and Iran.
Speaking at a media briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow was closely monitoring developments in the region. She described the situation as alarming and stressed the importance of preventing further escalation that could threaten regional security and stability.
Zakharova urged all sides to cease military strikes without delay and emphasized that attacks on civilian infrastructure are unacceptable. According to Russian officials, the worsening Middle East tensions could have serious consequences for both regional and global security if the conflict continues to expand.
Russia also criticized recent US threats of additional military action against Iran. Zakharova said such measures were “categorically unacceptable” and warned that continued military pressure would only deepen the crisis and reduce opportunities for peaceful dialogue.
Moscow reiterated its long-standing position that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward. Russian officials said there is no alternative to a political solution based on international law, mutual respect, and the legitimate security interests of all countries in the region.
The comments followed reports that US forces carried out strikes on Iranian air-defense and radar facilities near the Strait of Hormuz. The action reportedly came after the downing of a US Army helicopter, further contributing to growing Middle East tensions.
Iran later announced retaliatory attacks against multiple American military targets across the region. The latest exchange has raised fears of a wider conflict and highlighted the fragility of recent efforts to reduce hostilities. Russia said it remains ready to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring stability and preventing further escalation.
