KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah has announced a one-hour reduction in Sindh school hours.
Sardar Shah shared the announcement through a post on his official Facebook account. The move will reduce the daily duration of school activities across the province.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Sardar Shah also discussed several major challenges facing the education sector. He said authorities have struggled to develop a uniform education policy. He also called the large number of out-of-school children a major challenge.
The minister highlighted the damage caused by recent floods. He said floods damaged the walls of around 20,000 schools. He also said Pakistan spends less on education than many other countries worldwide.
Sardar Shah urged the federal government to provide funds for educational centres through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). He said additional financial support could help strengthen education facilities.
The minister also said millions of children receive education through community-based centres. However, rising inflation has increased the operating costs of these centres. He stressed the need for stronger financial support as expenses continue to rise.
The announcement on Sindh school hours comes amid wider concerns about education access and funding. The provincial government continues to face challenges related to school infrastructure, out-of-school children and rising education costs.
