India Blocks Entry of Bangladesh PM Advisor, Questions Him at Delhi Airport

India-Bangladesh Relations came under fresh attention after Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s advisor Zahidur Rahman was reportedly stopped from entering India and questioned for nearly two and a half hours at Delhi airport, according to Bangladeshi media reports.

Sources said that despite prior diplomatic clearance, Indian immigration authorities initially denied entry to the senior Bangladeshi official, leading to a prolonged questioning at the airport. The incident has raised concerns in diplomatic circles over procedural coordination.

The situation later changed after intervention by senior Indian officials, after which Zahidur Rahman was reportedly allowed entry into the country. However, the episode has triggered discussion regarding diplomatic protocol and communication between the two sides.

According to Bangladeshi media, Zahidur Rahman ultimately decided not to proceed with his visit and chose to return to Dhaka instead. He travelled back via Colombo, abandoning plans to continue his official engagement in India.

The advisor was reportedly travelling to attend a meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, where regional cooperation and economic collaboration issues were expected to be discussed among member states.

Officials have not yet issued an official detailed statement on the incident, while the matter continues to be assessed through diplomatic channels between India and Bangladesh.

The development adds a new layer of sensitivity to India-Bangladesh Relations, highlighting the importance of clearer coordination in diplomatic travel and regional engagements.
