BRT Service on M-1 Motorway

KP Government Considers BRT Service on M-1 Motorway

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started considering a proposal to operate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses on the M-1 Motorway to improve public transport connections between Peshawar and nearby districts.

According to Transport Department officials, the proposed BRT service could connect Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda. The service is expected to provide a more convenient travel option for thousands of passengers who commute between these areas.

Officials said the proposed plan includes pick-and-drop facilities for passengers at different toll plazas along the motorway. The arrangement could make travel easier for people commuting to and from Peshawar and other connected areas.

The Transport Department expects the proposed service to benefit thousands of passengers every day. However, the final route, stops and operational details will be determined after completion of a feasibility study.

Officials said the feasibility study will also determine suitable locations for BRT stations. Factors such as passenger demand, travel patterns and accessibility of different locations are expected to be considered before the stations are finalized.

The proposed service could strengthen public transport links between Peshawar and districts located along the M-1 corridor. If implemented, the project could offer commuters a more organized and convenient alternative to existing transport services.
