West Bank Violence

Former Israeli Prime Minister Alleges State-Backed Violence in West Bank

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has made strong allegations regarding West Bank Violence, stating that Palestinians in the occupied territory are facing systematic and state-supported abuses.

In an opinion piece, Olmert claimed that organized violence, destruction of property, arson attacks and other serious crimes are taking place in the West Bank with backing or protection from elements within the Israeli government.

He directly criticized senior Israeli leadership, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, holding them responsible for the situation and arguing that such actions have become increasingly widespread.

Olmert said that thousands of settlers could not carry out such activities without government protection, financial support or security cover. He described the situation as deeply concerning and warned of escalating instability in the region.

He also criticized Israeli security institutions, including the police, military and internal intelligence agency Shin Bet, accusing them of failing to prevent extremist violence and illegal actions in the occupied territories.

The former prime minister warned that if Israeli authorities fail to control the situation, international bodies including the United States, European governments and the International Criminal Court could take action against those responsible.

Olmert further stated that criticism of Israeli policy should not automatically be labeled as antisemitism, and called on Israeli society to confront extremist elements within its own ranks to prevent further deterioration of the West Bank Violence situation.
