The federal cabinet has approved amendments to the Defence Forces Act 2026 amendments and the National Command Authority Act 2010. The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
The meeting reviewed Pakistan’s political and security situation. The cabinet also discussed proposed legislation and reviewed the Supreme Court decision concerning the PTI founder and the government’s appeal.
According to government sources, the cabinet approved the draft of the Defence Forces Act 2026. It also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010.
The proposed Defence Forces Act 2026 amendments have been prepared as part of changes introduced through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The draft focuses on administrative matters related to the Chief of Defence Forces.
The proposed legislation also addresses matters concerning the Chief of Defence Forces Headquarters. Officials said the changes are intended to provide a clearer legal and administrative framework for defence-related responsibilities.
The Defence Forces Act 2026 draft will now be presented before parliament for approval. Similarly, the amended National Command Authority Act 2010 will also be placed before parliament for consideration.
According to government sources, the Defence Forces Act 2026 amendments and changes to the National Command Authority Act are aimed at improving the legal and administrative structure of defence affairs after the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
