Pakistan to Introduce Faceless Tax System, Says Finance Minister

Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced that Pakistan is moving toward a faceless tax system designed to eliminate direct interaction between taxpayers and tax officials. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize the tax administration framework and improve transparency.

Speaking during a National Assembly session on the federal budget, the finance minister highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s economy through structural reforms and digitalization. He said the new system would replace traditional taxpayer-officer interactions with technology-driven processes.

Aurangzeb stated that the government’s economic policies have contributed to greater stability over the past year. He credited the leadership for maintaining a clear economic direction, which he said helped improve key financial indicators and restore investor confidence.

According to the finance minister, Pakistan’s industries are showing signs of progress, while the current account balance has moved into surplus. He also noted that the country’s export sector is performing better and that information technology exports have recorded a 20 percent increase.

Discussing tax reforms, Aurangzeb emphasized that reducing human interaction within the tax system would help increase efficiency, transparency, and accountability. The proposed faceless model aims to streamline procedures and minimize opportunities for disputes or administrative delays.

The minister acknowledged criticism regarding the performance of tax authorities and said constructive feedback is essential for improving institutions. He added that ongoing reforms within the tax administration are focused on creating a more business-friendly and transparent environment.
