The federal government has allocated significant funds for various Karachi development projects in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. According to budget documents, billions of rupees have been earmarked for infrastructure, water supply, transportation, and municipal improvement schemes aimed at addressing the city’s growing urban challenges.
One of the largest allocations has been made for the Karachi Urban Infrastructure Development Package. The federal budget sets aside Rs7.5 billion for the project, which is expected to support key infrastructure upgrades across the metropolitan area. The initiative is designed to improve public facilities and strengthen the city’s urban framework.
The Greater Karachi Water Bulk Supply Scheme has received Rs10 billion in funding, making it one of the most heavily financed Karachi development projects in the budget. The allocation reflects the government’s focus on addressing long-standing water shortages faced by millions of residents in Pakistan’s largest city.
Budget documents also reveal that Rs1.98 billion has been allocated for the Green Line Bus project. The mass transit initiative plays an important role in improving public transportation and reducing travel difficulties for daily commuters. Continued investment is expected to enhance operational efficiency and passenger services.
In addition, the federal government has allocated funds for the Karachi Coastal Power Project Units One and Two. While the project received a relatively modest allocation of Rs10 million, officials say the funding will support ongoing planning and administrative requirements related to the scheme.
Several district-level infrastructure initiatives have also been included among the Karachi development projects. District West will receive Rs245.4 million for infrastructure rehabilitation, while Rs220 million has been allocated for improvement works in Nazimabad and Liaquatabad, including roads, drainage, and public facilities.
Further allocations include Rs200 million for roads, water supply, drainage systems, and playgrounds in Landhi and Korangi. District Central has been allocated Rs45 million, while District Malir will receive Rs50 million for roads, streets, and drainage projects. These investments highlight the government’s commitment to advancing Karachi development projects and improving urban living standards.
