Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to exercise greater control over his cabinet, warning that unresolved disagreements and controversial statements by ministers could create additional political challenges in the future.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised the prime minister’s efforts to engage both coalition partners and the opposition. He said Shehbaz Sharif works hard to address national issues and has adopted a positive approach toward political dialogue and consensus-building.
However, Bilawal criticized certain federal ministers for making remarks that complicate efforts to resolve sensitive matters. Referring to issues related to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he said political efforts were made to ease tensions, but a minister’s comments had worsened the situation instead of helping calm it.
The PPP chairman also questioned why some ministers continue to make statements that create friction among coalition partners. He noted that one minister had not yet apologized for remarks that sparked controversy, making it difficult for allies to support such positions.
Turning to Karachi’s issues, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the city’s problems should not be blamed solely on the PPP. He argued that coalition partners represented in the federal cabinet should also be held accountable for delays in implementing agreements and addressing local concerns.
He further stressed the importance of strengthening local governments across Pakistan. Bilawal said democratic governance requires empowered local bodies and called for local government elections throughout the country. He also announced that local elections in Gilgit-Baltistan would be held within 90 days following the formation of a government there.
Concluding his speech, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the government to ensure the federal budget is approved before Ashura. He expressed hope for the success of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying that effective governance and political stability would ultimately benefit the country and improve overall conditions.
