Pakistan Meteorological Department Forecasts Monsoon Rains to Begin from July 1

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the arrival of the 2026 monsoon season from July 1, with the first spell of rainfall expected to affect northern Pakistan, northeastern Punjab, and Azad Kashmir. The anticipated weather system is likely to bring relief from the ongoing summer heat in several parts of the country.

According to PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir, monsoon currents are expected to enter the northern regions and northeastern districts of Punjab at the beginning of July. As a result, scattered rain showers are likely in these areas, while meteorologists continue to monitor the movement and intensity of the seasonal weather system.

The spokesperson said there are currently no signs of the monsoon reaching Sindh. Based on the latest weather outlook, the province is expected to remain dry until at least July 5, with hot and humid conditions likely to persist across most districts during this period.

Speaking about Karachi, Anjum Nazir explained that a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal could eventually influence weather conditions in Sindh, including the provincial capital. If the system follows a favorable path, it may trigger rainfall in Karachi later in the monsoon season.

The PMD also expects Sindh, including Karachi, to receive below-average rainfall during this year’s monsoon. While occasional showers are possible, rainfall totals are currently projected to remain lower than the seasonal average unless weather patterns change significantly.

The department further noted that regional monsoon activity has been weaker than usual. According to the spokesperson, India recorded approximately 43 percent below-normal rainfall during June, a trend that could also influence the overall monsoon pattern across South Asia.
