PM Shehbaz departs for Turkiye after concluding his official engagements in Iran, where he attended condolence and funeral ceremonies for the late Iranian Supreme Leader. The visit formed part of Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and reaffirmed the country’s support for the Iranian leadership during a period of national mourning.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in the funeral and condolence events alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The delegation joined senior Iranian officials and representatives from several countries who gathered to pay their respects.
During the ceremony, the prime minister paid tribute to the late Iranian leader for his services to Islam. He also expressed solidarity with Iran’s leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, while extending condolences on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz offered prayers for the departed leader, asking for forgiveness and the elevation of his ranks. Pakistani officials described the visit as a gesture reflecting the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran and the importance of maintaining close diplomatic ties.
The Pakistani delegation also included Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Their presence highlighted Pakistan’s broad political representation during the official ceremonies in Tehran.
A separate parliamentary delegation, led by Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, also attended the events. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other parliamentarians joined the ceremonies, representing Pakistan’s legislative leadership.
