Iran has issued a fresh Iran Strait of Hormuz warning, cautioning against the presence of what it described as “extra-regional powers” in the strategically important waterway. Iranian officials said the security of the Strait of Hormuz should remain the responsibility of the countries bordering the region, warning that any military buildup could increase regional tensions.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the Strait of Hormuz should not become a venue for military displays by countries from outside the region. He stressed that Iran considers itself a responsible regional power committed to safeguarding the security and stability of one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

Gharibabadi stated that Iran remains highly sensitive to any military movements in the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that actions viewed as provocative or destabilizing could have serious consequences for regional security and international shipping through the vital energy corridor.
The deputy foreign minister also said that the security of the Strait lies with the neighboring coastal countries. He warned that parties responsible for creating tensions or engaging in military adventurism would be held accountable for the consequences of their actions.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Because of its strategic importance, developments in the area are closely monitored by regional governments and the international community.
