Maryam Nawaz education initiatives took center stage on Thursday as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed her government’s commitment to supporting students through quality education, scholarships and modern learning facilities. Speaking at the inauguration of 10 Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence in Arifwala, she said the Punjab government would stand with young people until they achieved their dreams.
The chief minister said the Honhaar Scholarship Programme had been launched to ensure that talented students are not deprived of education due to financial difficulties. She added that every deserving student should have equal opportunities to pursue higher education regardless of their economic background.
Highlighting ongoing reforms, Maryam Nawaz said government schools across Punjab are being upgraded into modern educational institutions. She said the objective is to provide students from all social backgrounds with equal access to quality classrooms, technology and learning opportunities.
Under the Maryam Nawaz education initiatives, the chief minister announced the distribution of 100,000 laptops and an additional 50,000 Honhaar Scholarships. She also revealed that Rs40 billion is being spent to improve facilities in public schools, including classrooms, furniture, clean drinking water, washrooms and other essential infrastructure.
She said the Punjab government is establishing science, technology, mathematics, computer and IT laboratories in schools while introducing artificial intelligence (AI) labs for the first time. Maryam Nawaz encouraged students to learn AI, machine learning and robotics to prepare for future careers.
Expressing concern over children’s safety, the chief minister urged parents to keep children away from unsafe places during the monsoon season. She also directed authorities to continue sealing open manholes and expanding the Green Electric Bus service to provide students with safer transportation.
Maryam Nawaz said the overwhelming response to the Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence reflected public confidence in education reforms. She announced that around 300 modern schools would eventually be established across Punjab, adding that quality education remains the government’s top priority.
