Iran’s UN Envoy Condemns US Strikes On Civilian Infrastructure

Iran’s UN envoy has accused the United States of carrying out attacks on civilian infrastructure, saying the strikes caused widespread damage and endangered regional peace. In a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, urged the international community to take note of what Tehran described as unlawful military actions.

According to the letter, Iravani said the US attacks struck key civilian facilities, including ports, transportation networks, communication systems, logistics hubs, radar installations and coastal defense infrastructure. He argued that these sites are essential for the daily lives of civilians and the functioning of Iran’s national economy.

The Iranian diplomat stated that the attacks caused extensive damage to infrastructure that serves the civilian population. He maintained that the destruction went beyond military objectives and affected facilities considered critical to public services and economic activity.

Iravani also asserted that the United States bears full international responsibility for all deaths, injuries, damage to vital infrastructure and environmental harm resulting from the strikes. He said accountability under international law should apply to the consequences of the attacks.

The letter further warned that the continued military actions pose a serious threat to international peace and security. It said the attacks could undermine freedom of navigation, increase regional instability and create additional security risks in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has repeatedly raised concerns over the impact of recent military operations on civilian infrastructure and regional stability. Tehran has called on the United Nations to address the issue through established international legal and diplomatic mechanisms.

The latest communication to the UN reflects Iran’s continued diplomatic efforts to present its position before the international community. The United Nations has not immediately commented publicly on the contents of Iravani’s letter.
