PTI Rejects AJK Election Results, Demands Fresh Polls

PTI rejects AJK election results after the party refused to accept the first phase results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, alleging irregularities and calling for a judicial inquiry into the electoral process and recent violence.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with other party leaders, said the turnout remained below five per cent and claimed that such a situation raised serious constitutional concerns. He accused political rivals of focusing on power struggles instead of addressing public issues.

Gohar said the PTI had rejected the election outcome and demanded an investigation into violent incidents reported during the AJK election process. He alleged that the regional government failed to control the situation and worsened political tensions.

The PTI leader also criticized restrictions on political activities, claiming party representatives were prevented from visiting Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He questioned how peace could be achieved if elected representatives were unable to engage with people.

According to Gohar, the July 27 elections were conducted through unfair practices and could not provide a solution to the region’s challenges. He said political disputes should be resolved through dialogue instead of force.

The PTI chairman emphasized that public opinion was a key element of democracy and demanded that people’s voices be respected. He called for the resignation of the AJK government, formation of a national government, and fresh elections across the region.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz emerged as the leading party in the first phase of the 2026 AJK Legislative Assembly elections. According to unofficial provisional results, PML-N secured nine out of 13 constituencies in Mirpur Division.
