Pakistan opener Shan Masood injury has ruled him out of the second and final Test against the West Indies after he fractured the index finger of his left hand during the opening match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the setback, leaving Pakistan without one of its key top-order batters.
Masood suffered the injury at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba after being struck by a delivery from West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales. Despite the injury, he completed a brilliant first-innings century before dropping down to number eight in the batting order as Pakistan eventually lost the match by 90 runs.
The PCB said Masood underwent a scan and clinical assessment after the opening Test. According to the board, the left-handed batter is receiving treatment under the supervision of the Pakistan team medical panel while his rehabilitation continues.
The Shan Masood injury has also raised concerns about Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming tour of England. The PCB stated that his participation in the first Test against England, scheduled to begin on August 19 at Headingley in Leeds, will depend on his recovery and medical progress.
Pakistan are set to play a three-match Test series in England before competing in a five-match One-Day International series. Team management will closely monitor Masood’s fitness before making a final decision on his availability.
Masood’s century in the first innings was one of the few bright moments for Pakistan in the opening Test. However, the visitors failed to build on his contribution as the West Indies secured a convincing 90-run victory to take the lead in the two-match series.
Pakistan will now look to regroup ahead of the decisive second Test, while selectors may be forced to adjust the batting order in the absence of the experienced opener. Fans will also be hoping the Shan Masood injury does not keep him out of the important England tour.
