Iran Inflation Rate

Iran Inflation Rate Hits 66% as Food Prices Surge

Iran’s annual inflation rate has reached 66%, according to official figures released by the Statistical Center of Iran. The latest data highlights the growing pressure on households as the prices of essential goods continue to rise sharply across the country.

According to the official statistics, prices of at least eight basic commodities have more than doubled over the past 12 months. The sharp increase in the cost of essential goods is adding to concerns about household purchasing power and the broader cost-of-living crisis in Iran.

Food and beverage prices recorded an especially significant increase. The data showed that food and beverage prices rose by 128% on an annual basis, putting additional pressure on consumers and increasing the cost of everyday household necessities.

The monthly inflation rate also remained elevated. Iran recorded a monthly inflation rate of 3.1% in July, indicating that prices continued to increase even after the substantial annual rise recorded over the previous 12 months.

The latest figures underline the severity of Iran’s economic challenges. Rapid increases in food prices are particularly significant because they directly affect household budgets and can disproportionately impact lower-income families.

According to Arab media reports, Iran’s rising living costs are being driven by multiple economic pressures. International sanctions have continued to weigh on the Iranian economy, while the costs associated with regional conflicts and tensions have added further pressure to an already challenging economic environment.
