Qalibaf Warns Economic Hardship Could Threaten Iran

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has warned that Qalibaf economic warning reflects growing concerns over the impact of US economic pressure on Iran.

Speaking to Iranian and Iraqi traders at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, Qalibaf said Iran must prepare to withstand economic pressure and sanctions from Washington.

Qalibaf said military strength alone could not protect a government if people were facing hunger. He stressed that economic development and national production were essential for the country’s stability.

The Iranian parliament speaker called for planning to overcome what he described as harsh sanctions. He said Iran needed effective measures to withstand growing economic pressure.

During the meeting, Qalibaf also called for greater use of the national currencies of Iran and Iraq in bilateral trade. He said the move could help reduce the role of the US dollar in trade between the two countries.

Qalibaf also said Iran and Iraq should cooperate on security and economic development. According to him, the two countries had strengthened their security through cooperation and should now work together to improve economic prosperity.

The remarks came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington was preparing what he described as a major campaign of economic isolation against Iran. The Qalibaf economic warning highlights Tehran’s concern over the potential impact of intensified sanctions.
