England were bowled out for 409 in their first innings on the third day of the Leeds Test, securing a 238-run lead over Pakistan.
Harry Brook top-scored for England with 91 runs, while Jordan Cox contributed 73. Joe Root scored 66 and Larson added 51 as England built a substantial first-innings advantage.
Pakistan’s Ali Usman was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets for 95 runs. Khurram Shahzad also impressed with three wickets after conceding 133 runs.
England began the third day with a 195-run lead after reaching 366 for eight at the close of play on the second day. The hosts eventually completed their first innings on 409 after batting for 89.5 overs.
Pakistan were previously dismissed for 171 in their first innings. Abdullah Shafique was the leading scorer with 61 runs, while Imam-ul-Haq made 42 and captain Salman Ali Agha contributed 21. Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Rizwan scored 14 and 12 respectively.
Ali Usman’s five-wicket haul was a notable achievement. He became the first left-arm spinner to take five wickets in a Test innings in England for Pakistan, while Mohammad Abbas, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali claimed one wicket each.
With England holding a 238-run advantage, Pakistan now face a significant challenge in their second innings. The visitors will need a strong batting performance to reduce the deficit and remain competitive in the Test.
