EU Calls for Nuclear Experts in Iran Talks Warning

The Iran nuclear talks debate has gained renewed attention after the European Union’s foreign policy chief called for the inclusion of nuclear experts in any negotiations with Tehran. The warning highlights growing concerns over the effectiveness of future diplomatic efforts.

Speaking ahead of an informal European Union summit in Cyprus, EU foreign chief Kaja Kallas stressed that the Iran nuclear talks must involve technical expertise to avoid weak or incomplete outcomes. She warned that excluding specialists could undermine the entire negotiation process.

The Iran nuclear talks are widely seen as a continuation of efforts linked to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, known as the JCPOA, which aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Kallas warned that without nuclear experts at the table, any new agreement could end up weaker than the JCPOA. She emphasized that technical understanding is essential to ensure verification, compliance, and long-term stability in the Iran nuclear talks process.

Beyond nuclear issues, she also highlighted broader regional concerns, including missile development, proxy networks, and cyber activities. According to her, failing to address these dimensions would result in an incomplete and potentially unstable agreement.

The Iran nuclear talks have long been a point of international tension, involving multiple global stakeholders seeking to balance security concerns with diplomatic engagement. EU officials argue that a narrow focus on nuclear issues alone may not resolve wider geopolitical risks.

Kallas concluded that without a comprehensive and expert-driven approach, future Iran nuclear talks could unintentionally lead to a more dangerous regional security environment rather than reducing tensions.
