Pakistan to Set Up 3 Gemstone Centers of Excellence

The initiative to boost Pakistan gemstone exports has gained momentum as the government announced the establishment of three Centers of Excellence aimed at improving mining, processing, and international competitiveness of precious stones.

The plan to strengthen Pakistan gemstone exports was reviewed in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where officials discussed strategies to modernize the gemstone sector and expand export potential.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan gemstone exports can significantly grow due to the country’s rich natural resources. He directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for value addition through advanced processing.

Under the initiative for Pakistan gemstone exports, three Centers of Excellence will be set up in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad to provide modern training and infrastructure for the sector.

Officials briefed the meeting that these centers will help improve cutting, polishing, and jewelry-making skills. The goal is to enhance the quality of production and increase the global demand for Pakistan gemstone exports.

The government is also planning international exhibitions and training programs in collaboration with countries like China and Sri Lanka, further supporting the growth of Pakistan gemstone exports through global partnerships.

Experts believe that the new strategy for Pakistan gemstone exports could transform the sector into a major contributor to the national economy by creating jobs, improving skills, and increasing foreign exchange earnings.
