US President Donald Trump has stated that King Charles shares the view that Iran should not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, making the issue a focal point during a White House state dinner held in honor of the visiting British monarch.
Speaking at the event, Trump said that both the United States and the United Kingdom remain aligned in their long-standing position on the Iran nuclear weapon issue, emphasizing that Tehran must not acquire nuclear capabilities under any circumstances.
According to Trump, King Charles “agrees even more strongly” that Iran should not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons. However, the British monarch did not directly comment on Iran during the event and maintained his constitutional neutrality.
The remarks came during a tense period in international relations, particularly surrounding ongoing Middle East conflicts and differing political views between Washington and London regarding regional military strategies.
During the same dinner, Trump also referenced broader military developments in the region, claiming progress in addressing security threats. However, these statements were not independently verified within the official diplomatic context.
Both the United States and the United Kingdom have consistently maintained over the years that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons, a position rooted in global non-proliferation policies and international security concerns regarding the Iran nuclear weapon issue.
Iran, however, continues to deny any intention of developing nuclear weapons, insisting that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes such as energy production and medical research under international treaties.
The British government and Buckingham Palace have not issued an immediate response to Trump’s comments, and King Charles did not publicly address the subject during his official engagements.
